Acrylic and plexiglass, cut to your spec.

Tabletop covers, display fronts, replacement window panes, sneeze guards, custom signage backing. Bring your dimensions, leave with the finished piece — usually for less than the shipping on a custom-cut online order.

The honest read

What the cutting counter handles

Acrylic (the generic name for Plexiglass, Lexan, Optix and similar branded sheet) is brittle, scratch-prone, and tricky to cut without chipping. The counter has the right blade, the right speed, and the right hold-down — three things your circular saw at home doesn't.

Typical sheets stocked are 1/16″ to 1/2″ thick in clear, frosted, white, and sometimes color. Standard sizes are 24×48 and 48×96. Most stores cut to your dimension off the larger sheet and bill the cut piece plus a small saw fee.

Polycarbonate (Lexan) is tougher and more impact-resistant than acrylic but more expensive. If you're not sure which one you need, the counter will ask what it's for and pick.

What gets cut

What people actually come in for

If your project's not on this list, walk in and ask — there's a good chance they can do it.

01

Replacement window panes

Broken storm window, garage window, basement window. Acrylic or polycarbonate is way harder to break than glass on impact — popular for shop windows and rentals.

02

Sneeze guards and protective shields

Office reception, school desks, retail counters. Cut to size, edges polished or chamfered, sometimes mounted on standoffs. Counter can advise on the right thickness.

03

Tabletop and shelf covers

Protect a wood desk or table from spills, scratches, and pen marks. Clear acrylic 1/8″ or 1/4″ cut to fit the surface. Standard, simple, looks clean.

04

Display fronts and signage backing

Picture frame replacement glass alternative, sign protector, menu board covers. Light, doesn't shatter, ships from across town instead of across the country.

Before you go

Before you go

  • Dimensions written down — width, length, thickness (or have the old piece with you)
  • Decide clear vs. frosted vs. white before you arrive (or ask the counter to show you samples)
  • Plan for the larger cut — most stores work off 24×48 or 48×96 sheets and bill the offcut at a discount
  • If you need polished edges (for tabletops, sneeze guards), ask — the counter usually has a flame-polisher
  • Be ready for the cut to take a few minutes; acrylic is cut slowly to prevent chipping
