Find In-Store
Most states authorize local hardware and sporting stores to issue hunting and fishing licenses. Walk in, answer the questions, walk out licensed. Often faster than the state website, and the counter can answer your “wait, which tag do I need?” questions in real time.
Find a store near you →State fish-and-wildlife online portals are not famous for being good software. They're built by lowest-bidder contractors, time out under load, and often present the licensing rules in dense regulatory language. The counter cuts through all of that.
Local stores are licensed agents. They have the same access to the state system, plus a person who can answer your questions: which tag do I need for an antlerless deer in zone 4B? Is my non-resident multi-day license better than the daily? Do I need a salmon stamp or just a base license?
The cost is the same as buying online (state-set, can't be marked up). The difference is the help and the speed.
State-specific. Most NHG network stores in hunting and fishing regions cover the basics below.
Annual, multi-day, single-day, senior, youth. Freshwater, saltwater, combination — varies by state. The counter will sell you the right one for what you're actually fishing for.
Base hunting license plus species-specific tags (deer, elk, turkey, bear, etc.) where state requires them. Counter helps you match license + tag + zone correctly.
Federal duck stamp (required for migratory waterfowl hunting nationwide), state-specific salmon and trout stamps, habitat stamps. Easy to miss buying these online; the counter catches it.
Some states honor neighboring state licenses for certain waters. Lifetime licenses are available in many states at a flat one-time fee. Ask the counter if either applies to your situation.
Most NHG network stores in hunting and fishing regions sell licenses on behalf of the state. Enter your ZIP.
We support local hardware stores — we don't replace them.
This is one of the services that's better done in person. The store on the corner is built for it.
Why it's worth the trip →Most hardware stores can do more than you think. If we can't help you, the folks down the street probably can — just ask at the counter.
The stores we send you to are local and independently run — often for generations, the kind of place where someone behind the counter knows the regulars. We don't own them. We just think they deserve the foot traffic. They can put most of what we sell on their next truck. Ask there before you check out here.
