Irwin built this bench vise for shop work that doesn't leave room for slop - metalworking, fabrication, repair jobs where a vise that shifts or flexes under load just gets in the way. The 4" steel jaws open to a 3" capacity, wide enough for most stock you'll clamp down for filing, grinding, drilling, or sawing, and the 2.2" throat depth gives you room to work on parts that need to sit down in the jaws rather than perched at the edge.
A swivel base lets you rotate the vise to the angle that suits the job instead of forcing you to reposition the workpiece every time you change tools. It's a solid, no-nonsense mount for a workbench that sees real use.
