Splitting firewood by hand comes down to two things: enough head weight to do the work, and a handle that survives the swing. The Collins Rapid Maul pairs an 8-lb forged steel head with a 36-inch fiberglass handle, giving you the mass to bust through knotty rounds without the wrist-jarring feedback you get from a wood-handled maul.
The single bit head is built for splitting, not chopping - the wedge shape drives into the grain and forces logs apart rather than binding like an axe blade can. Fiberglass construction means the handle won't dry out, crack, or loosen at the head the way hickory can after a season in the weather, so it's a good fit for anyone stacking wood for a stove, a fire pit, or a cabin that sees regular use. At just over 11 lbs total, it's heavy enough to split efficiently but still swingable for repeat use through a wood pile.
No sheath is included, so plan on hanging it in the shed rather than tossing it in a truck bed with other tools.
