Forney's ER70S-6 wire is the go-to choice for MIG welding on mild steel, and the .035 diameter strikes a good balance between deposition rate and control for general fabrication and repair work. The ER70S-6 classification means it runs clean on metal with light rust or mill scale, which makes it forgiving for shop and garage conditions where surfaces aren't always perfectly prepped.
With a 70,000 psi tensile strength, welds hold up under real structural and repair loads, and the wire runs on DCEP polarity like most MIG setups. It's suited to auto body repair and fabrication on most ferrous metals, so it covers everything from panel work to general steel projects. The 10 lb spool comes boxed for easy storage and handling in the shop.
