The 60-inch overall length with a 48-inch wood handle gives you leverage and reach without hunching over, and the steel blade with a coated finish holds up to repeated scooping without material sticking to it. A blade step gives your boot a place to push, so you can drive the blade into packed ground or dense piles with your body weight instead of just your arms.
