Water hammer happens when a fast-closing valve or washing machine solenoid sends a shock wave through your pipes, and this NIBCO air chamber is built to absorb it. Sweated onto 1/2" copper supply lines, it gives trapped air a place to compress instead of letting the pipe bang against studs and joists. It's a straightforward fix for noisy pipes near dishwashers, washing machines, and quick-shutoff fixtures.
